Physical Vs Chemical Sunscreen
Physical vs Chemical Sunscreen
Sidney | 31.5.2019

A Physical Sunscreen contains active mineral ingredients, such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, which work by sitting on top of the skin surface to deflect and scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin. A physical spf will provide protection immediately at application from UVA and UVB rays. A Chemical Sunscreen contains carbon-based compounds, such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, octisalate, and avobenzone, which create a chemical reaction and work by changing UV rays into heat, then releasing that heat from the skin.  A chemical spf requires about 20 minutes after application before it starts to work. Which ever you choose to protect your skin with, a Physical or Chemical Sunscreen, we recommend a SPF 30 or higher and reapply every 80 minutes. #PROTECT

Do I Really Need To Exfoliate?
Do I Really Need To Exfoliate?
Sidney | 26.2.2019

One of the greatest things you can do for your skin is a quick, easy, effective exfoliation. Would you choose a chemical or physical exfoliating treatment to help increase skin cell turnover, improve texture and tone, and help fight the signs of aging? AHAs, such as glycolic acid and BHAs, such as salicylic acid is great chemical exfoliates that can be found in your cleanser. Enzymes are another great form of a chemical exfoliate and can be found in facial masks. These don’t require a lot of effort but do offer a maximum result. Once applied, chemical exfoliants gently loosen dead skin cells and remove them.  Physical exfoliants are a more popular way to exfoliate the skin by using scrubs, dermaplaning, and using a brush. These treatments work by combining tiny particles with the mechanical action of you hands to gently buff away dead cells. Scrubs are effective in smoothing you skin and help skincare products penetrate more effectively. Whatever exfoliating option is best for you, you are sure to notice the results of smoother flawless skin.

A Dive Into Pigmentation
A Dive into Pigmentation
Sidney | 28.9.2018

You go to great lengths to keep your skin looking its best by using serums, creams and receiving skin treatments, all of which play an important part in managing healthy-looking skin. However, it’s also important to understand what’s happening underneath your skin to affect its pigmentation, or color. So, lets dive into what pigmentation is and how it can be treated. What is pigmentation? Pigmentation is the color of a person’s skin. There are also two types of pigmentation, hyperpigmentation (darker) and hypopigmentation (lighter). What causes changes in pigmentation? Most of what we perceive as aging is caused by factors that you can control, the main one being the amount of time your skin spends exposed to the sun. Excessive sun exposure may be responsible for structural changes in the skin that will not be seen for years and can also cause drastic changes to your skin’s pigmentation. The sun’s rays speed up how active your skin cells, or melanocytes, are. Melanocytes produce melanin, the pigment that gives your skin its color, so more exposure to the sun means more pigment in your skin. Pigmentation changes may also take place in those who have darker skin, as dark skin tends to have more melanin, which makes one more susceptible to a condition known as melasma. Also known as “pregnancy mask,” melasma is characterized by brown or tan patches on the face and is caused by a change in hormone levels. Additionally, changes in pigmentation may also be attributed to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH, which is caused by trauma to the skin such as acne, these are dark spots that remain long after the initial inflammation has healed. Treatment and prevention The good news is that you can manage pigmentation changes to your skin by limiting your exposure to the sun and avoiding unnecessary trauma to your skin. Some easy-to-follow recommendations include wearing an SPF 30 or higher every day, bringing a hat or umbrella for further protection from the sun, and always wearing sunglasses. Hydroquinone is considered by many to be the gold standard for treating pigmentation issues and is a key ingredient in the Obagi Nu Derm System which is ideal for treating age spots, dark spots, and melasma. We offer our clients a free Visia Skin Analysis to determine the best treatment option for maximum results.

The Skin Benefits Of Vitamin C
The Skin Benefits of Vitamin C
Sidney | 24.8.2018

Your body needs a variety of nutrients to look and function its best, of course, but vitamin C is a particularly important player. It offers much more than the immune-boosting properties you probably already know it for; because a lot of C is stored in your skin, it helps rejuvenate and protect your complexion whether you get it from food or apply it topically. Vitamin C in your skincare regimen is just as import as washing your face and applying sunscreen.   Here’s what happens when you feed your body vitamin C: It helps keep the skin strong and firm. Along with minimizing the appearance of fine lines, vitamin C also helps the surface of your skin appear smoother and firmer. It helps heal skin. Injuries that lead to scar tissue need the help of vitamin C to repair damaged skin.   Here’s what happens when you apply vitamin C topically: It provides antioxidant protection. This feeds your skin protective antioxidants that fight free radical damage and inflammation caused by the sun, pollution and other factors. It helps improve signs of aging. Topical vitamin C triggers collagen production by turning on fibroblasts, which helps improve the appearance of fine lines. Vitamin C also helps slow the breakdown of collagen, preserving skin’s structure. It can even out skin tone. The L-ascorbic acid form of vitamin C interrupts the overproduction of pigment. Using vitamin C over a period can lighten brown spots.

Myths About Acne
Myths about Acne
Sidney | 2.8.2018

Myth 1: Only people with oily skin can get acne Acne is caused by clogged pores and bacteria. Flakes of dead skin cells and dirt can clog pores trapping acne causing bacteria for people with dry skin. Oily skin types produce excess oil, which can lead to clogged pores and therefore acne. The type of treatment used to treat acne will be determined by your skin type, oily or dry.   Myth 2: Acne treatments work quickly The best acne treatment is prevention. The acne cycle takes eight weeks, meaning it can take up to eight weeks to see your full results from an acne skincare regimen or treatment. Consistency is key in seeing results along with sticking with your prescribed regiment, even if you don’t see results right away.   Myth 3: The sun can clear acne The sun can may make your pimples appear less noticeable, but that doesn’t mean they are gone. Sun exposure can make acne worse by dehydrating the skin and therefore triggers increased oil production. You may also see an increase in hyperpigmentation and darkening of your acne scars. We recommend a physical sunscreen of an SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from sun exposure.   Myth 4: Scrubbing your skin will get rid of pimples Over-exfoliating worsens acne. We recommend using a cleanser based on your skin type that contains either salicylic or glycolic acid.   Myth 5: Retinoids make your skin more sensitive to the sun Retinol and Retin-A’s are used to treat acne. These products are designed to be used at nighttime to promote cellular turnover because they lose their efficacy when exposed to sunlight. Again, we recommend an SPF 30 or higher to stay protected from sun exposure.

The Low Down On Microdermabrasion
The Low Down on Microdermabrasion
Sidney | 31.7.2018

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment that involves exfoliating the skin for improved tone and texture. You may have a few questions about how it works, how to care for your skin post treatment, and what microdermabrasion is used for. We decided to let our licensed estheticians answer some our most frequently asked questions about microdermabrasion.

  1. What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a procedure that removes the top layers of skin. This exfoliating treatment promotes new collagen production, smooths out the skin and helps reverse signs of aging by minimizing scars and smoothing our fine lines.
  1. What type of microdermabrasion does Shine offer?
There are two types of microdermabrasion: diamond and crystal. Crystal microdermabrasion is what is most commonly used by most skin care professionals. During crystal microdermabrasion a handheld wand delivers tiny microcrystals across the skin removing damaged or aging skin. The device uses a small vacuum that sucks up the dead skin and used crystals leaving the skin refreshed post-procedure. Diamond-tip microdermabrasion utilizes a wand with a tip made from natural or synthetic diamond chips. Shine offers two passes with crystal microdermabrasion followed by a single diamond-tip pass to finish the treatment.
  1. How often would you recommend someone have microdermabrasion treatments?
We recommend at least a series of three treatments, spaced 3-4 weeks apart. If a client has pigmentation, scarring or deep wrinkles, more treatments will be necessary.
  1. Is there any downtime with microdermabrasion?
There is no downtime when receiving microdermabrasion treatments. However, we do recommend that you stop your Rentin-A or Retinol topicals five days prior to your treatment.
  1. How should someone care for their skin after a microdermabrasion treatment?
We suggest a “core 4” product regimen that consist of an antioxidant, Retinol or Retin-A, moisturizer, and SPF of 30 or higher. This will keep the skin healthy and hydrated giving the client a better faster result.

HydraFacial: The Next Generation Facial
HydraFacial: The Next Generation Facial
Sidney | 25.7.2018

The purpose of any facial is to create healthier, better looking skin.  To achieve these goals of healthier, better looking skin a facial must contain certain basic steps in order to produce real results.  The essential steps of a facial are cleansing the skin, the application of an exfoliant through a chemical (peel) or mechanical process such as microdermabrasion or dermaplane, and then extractions.  The more thorough these steps are completed the better the results and the better your skin will look; hence, the popularity of the HydraFacial. The HydraFacial uses advanced patented technologies to maximize the basic steps of a facial by using the soothing nature and cleansing action of swirling, fortified water.  The resulting effect is an astonishingly deeper yet gentler cleansing step followed by an exfoliation step that is significantly better than microdermabrasion and termed Hydra-dermabrasion. Hydra-dermabrasion has the additional benefit of setting the stage for a more thorough yet less traumatic extraction process. The HydraFacial treatment doesn’t stop at the basic three steps; it includes the additional step and benefit of infusing antioxidants into the skin, which not only hydrates the skin but decreases inflammation, reverses sun damage, and protects the skin’s collagen fibers and enzyme systems. The treatment has been shown through clinical studies to replace damaged tissue and produce new collagen fibers. If you have problematic skin or chronic facial redness the system contains LED red and blue light attachments that can be applied with the HydraFacial to further reduce acne break-outs and substantially reduce redness, even after only one treatment. See the immediate benefits from this one of a kind facial. We are proud to offer the HydraFacial treatment to our clients!

Draw A Different Line With Kybella
Draw a different line with Kybella
Sidney | 12.7.2018

Many thoughts creep through the minds of those who live with double chins. Here are five truths that may just hit home:

  • They’re only cute on babies.
  • All the neck and chin lifting exercises in the world aren’t going to change the look of this chin.
  • For guys: Maybe facial hair could disguise the problem. Maybe not, when it doesn’t grow to a full beard.
  • Camera angles for pictures are tricky. Go high, please.
  • Mirrors are not enjoyable to look at.
We understand the struggle is real and want to help! Put your best chin forward with Kybella, an injectable treatment for adults with chin fullness or more than a double chin. Kybella eliminates fat cells beneath the chin to help improve the ever-so-necessary side profile. Kybella treatments are administered at least 1 month apart and should not exceed six total treatments. Because no two chins are the same, treatments will be different for each person. It all comes down to the amount of submental fat (double chin) that's being treated. To start your treatment journey we recommend to schedule a free consultation with one of our highly trained team members in order to decide whether or not Kybella is right for you and how much is necessary to treat your situation. Don't wait, draw a different line today!

What Is A Medical Facial
What is a Medical Facial
Sidney | 10.11.2017

When it comes to professional facial treatments, there is a difference between a day spa facial and a medical spa facial. The biggest difference is that a med spa facial will use medical grade skincare products and devices to give you maximum results. Skin Analysis The first step in your med spa journey will begin with a Visia Skin Analysis. At this appointment a skincare specialist will take 9 different scans of your face that will show above and below the skin surface. A customized treatment plan including medical grade skincare products and services will be designed specially to meet your skincare needs and wants. Cleansing of the Skin More than your spa facials that supposedly clean and get rid of all the dirt on your face, medical facials treat your skin from the inside to the external surface of the skin. To start off, you can expect a deep pore cleansing that usually uses products and equipment that allows your aesthetician to deeply clean the skin while maintaining its natural barrier function that is characterized by balanced pH, oils and lipids. More than Skin Deep Our medical grade treatments are working on the cellular level of the skin, which work the best because it deals with the full cycle of skin regeneration. We recommend receiving a hydraFacial, microdermabrasion or medical strength chemical peel every 4-6 weeks.  Once you begin to do this, you will soon see the improvements. The Essential Exfoliation To stimulate cell renewal, exfoliation is offered. This can be either physical like the microdermabrasion crystals, dermaplane or with the use of chemical peels like acids and enzymes. Aside from the much need skin renewal, they are effective in removing built up dry skin, takes care of discoloration, and minimally erases breakout marks. The active ingredients are also allowed to be absorbed deeper within the skin to maximize their skin renewal properties. Get Some Steam As minor as it sounds, steam is also essential to good skin care because it warms the skin’s surface to make it more ready and receptive to the other treatments that the aesthetician will perform. Circulation is also expected to be enhanced by this step as well as the softening of the debris inside the pores. This will make it easy to remove unwanted blackheads and whiteheads. Manual Extractions For congestion of the pores like the blackheads and whiteheads shall be manually removed. Such extractions should be performed regularly to maintain the smoothness and clear complexion that it leaves on the patient. Toning and Hydration At the end of your treatment, you are given the most important parts of the facial, beginning with the use of the toner that just brings back the skin’s natural pH. This stage also prepares the skin to absorb the treatment serums and moisturizer that it is about to receive. Next step would be the hydration of the skin that will be accomplished by applying moisturizers that are recommended based on your skin type. One of the most vital parts of any facial, moisturizing should be done always, no matter what skin-type you have. To protect your skin, an SPF of 30 or higher is added, protecting your skin from the harmful and damaging effects of the sun.

Forever Young BBL
Forever Young BBL
Sidney | 3.11.2017

What Makes Forever Young BBL Different From Other Laser Therapies? Sure, almost everyone knows that prolonged sun exposure is the root of all skin aging evils — from deep forehead lines to uneven skin tone. Yet, spending more time outdoors is also one of the genuinely beautiful ways to relax and regain focus, whether in your career or personal life. So, how do you maintain that healthy, youthful glow without having to say no to invitations from friends and family to relax the outdoors? Of course, there’s sunscreen. But its protective capabilities are short-lived. You need something more reliable that will give you stunning results in the long haul! You need to look for a treatment that does more than peel the skin’s superficial layers or help the skin generate more collagen. You need Sciton’s Forever Young BBL! The Broadband Light Difference Unlike other laser skin rejuvenation treatments that repairs aging skin, Sciton’s Forever Young BBL halts and prevents further skin aging down to the gene level. Stanford University researchers found out something remarkable in their study of Broadband Light treatments and its effects on skin aging. Here’s an excerpt of the press release: The study supports the hypothesis that regulators of aging can be altered in human skin using BBL technology to provide a functional change, rather than just a cosmetic mimic of youthful appearance. BBL treatments promote the appearance of youthful skin. This study reveals that the appearance of younger skin may be due to the differences observed in gene expression patterns of aged skin becoming more like young skin. Treatments from the study were performed on the FDA-cleared Sciton Joule using the BBL module. The takeaway from the abovementioned research is Sciton’s BBL unique way retaining your skin’s youthfulness. Interestingly, it triggers a series of events that help change gene expression. In a nutshell, it’s not just your skin’s structure that gets a makeover but there is also a significant functional change in how your genes that regulate skin aging express themselves. Which skin care problems respond extremely well to Broadband Light treatments? The BBL treatment is your best light-based skin rejuvenation option if you’ve tried every possible remedies out there but still not getting the results you want with the following skin concerns and woes:

  • Texture problems: fine lines, deep lines, wrinkles, large pores
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Sun-damaged skin (freckles may be sexy but brown and red spots aren’t!)
  • Vascular lesions: facial veins, rosacea, hemangiomas, angiomas
  • Acne, rosacea

Other Extraordinary Benefits of BBL Treatment
  • You can resume your normal activities immediately post-treatment.

Top 5 Reasons To Get An IPL Photofacial
Top 5 reasons to get an IPL Photofacial
Sidney | 17.8.2017

Say goodbye to red, sun damaged, aging skin with the innovative Intense Pulsed Light treatment. So what is IPL? IPL or Photofacial is a treatment that uses intense pulses of light to penetrate deep into the skin to treat hyperpigmentation, redness and enhance collagen production. We've listed the top 5 reasons you should invest in IPL treatments. Trust us, you'll thank us later!

1. It can be done anywhere

Most clients will start on the facial area but once they start to see the results, they tend to treat other problem areas such as neck, chest, shoulders and back. IPL treatments can be done anywhere on the body.

2. Keeps the skin clear from brown spots, small blood vessels and acne

If you have irregular pigmentation to your skin or small blood vessels that have become visible, IPL is a great solution to help clear the skin. If you suffer from acne or redness and inflammation caused by acne, IPL treatments can help. IPL treatments will reduce the redness and inflammation and kill the P bacteria that is causing acne.

3. Minimizes the signs of aging

Photofacial reduces wrinkles, sunspots and other indicators of aging. IPL will stimulate collagen growth by treating a deeper layer of skin, while improving texture, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

4. IPL can be done in conjunction with other treatments

Since IPL treatments target the deeper layers of skin, they can be performed with other skin treatments such as microdermabrasion, facials or chemical peels.

5. It's quick, easy and painless

IPL treatments can range anywhere from 15 minutes to hour long treatments, which can easily be added into your busy schedule. There is little down time associated with IPL and you can continue with your daily routines.

What Is A Chemical Peel?
What is a Chemical Peel?
Sidney | 12.1.2017

A chemical peel is a treatment used to improve the appearance of the skin. A chemical peel can be used on the face, neck, chest or hands. The chemical solution is applied to skin causing an exfoliating process which will eventually peel off. The fresh new skin is smoother, less wrinkled, and has more even tones. There are three basic types of chemical peels we offer:   Superficial or lunchtime peel: This would be a mild acid used to penetrate only the outer layer of the skin for a gentle exfoliation. The treatment is used to improve the appearance of mild skin discolorations, texture, and fine lines and wrinkles.     Medium depth peel: Glycolic acid is applied to penetrate the outer and middle layers of the skin. This treatment will help improve dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and rough textures such as acne scarring.     Deep peel: A TCA peel is applied to the skin surface to deeply penetrate the middle layer of the skin to improve deep wrinkle lines, dark spots, and shallow scars.

What Is MiraDry?
What is miraDry?
Sidney | 5.1.2017

MiraDry is the only noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment that will free you from the bothersome problems of underarm sweat. By eliminating the sweat and odor glands, you can feel confident that your underarms will remain dry in any situation.   What is the miraDry treatment? miraDry is the only noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment that will free you from the bothersome problems of underarm sweat. By eliminating the sweat and odor glands, you can feel confident that your underarms will remain dry in any situation.   Don't I need sweat glands? Not in your armpits! You are born with approximately 2 million sweat glands throughout your body. Your underarms only contain about 2% of those glands. After your miraDry treatment you will experience the many benefits of dry underarms, and you will continue to perspire normally elsewhere.   What is the treatment like? You will be in a reclined position for about one hour. You aren’t likely to feel anything during the treatment since your underarms will be numbed prior to treatment. After treatment, you may experience swelling, soreness, tingling and numbness in the treated area. These sensations typically clear-up within a few days to a few weeks.   How does it work? The miraDry system uses proprietary miraWave energy that targets and destroys sweat and odor glands in your underarm. Once those glands are destroyed they do not grow back so that means once they are gone, they are gone for good   What results can I expect? You can expect to have an immediate reduction in your sweat. Sweat glands don’t grow back so you should experience results that last. The amount of sweat reduction you desire should be discussed with your miraDry physician. As with any treatment, the results may vary from person to person.   How many treatments will I need? You will see results in as little as one treatment. However, as with any aesthetic treatment, your physician will determine the best treatment plan for your desired results.   Is the treatment painless? Since your underarms are numbed prior to treatment, most patients experience little to no pain.   Is there any downtime? Depending on what your typical day is like, downtime can be minimal to none. Most patients return to regular activity (like returning to work) immediately. Exercise and vigorous activity is typically resumed within several days. You may experience discomfort in your armpits for several day post treatment.   Is it safe? Yes, miraDry has been used in over 55,000 treatments worldwide with an excellent safety record.   Are there any side effects? After treatment, you may experience temporary swelling, soreness, tingling and numbness in the treated area. These sensations typically clear up within a few days to a few weeks. There have been no reports of permanent side effects; however, some patients experience short-term altered sensation in the skin of their underarms or upper arms, which gradually disappears. Please consult with your physicians for all possible side effects and to see if miraDry is right for you.

5 Myths About Microdermabrasion
5 myths about microdermabrasion
Sidney | 2.11.2016

Microdermabrasion is the first step to healthier, brighter skin. When it comes to your face, there’s good reason to be nervous about trying something new—but microdermabrasion is safe and simple! Here are some myths about microdermabrasion debunked!

  1. It hurts!
It’s completely understandable why you might think a foreign substance scrubbing away dead skin cells from your face could hurt—but this really doesn’t! In fact, it can feel almost like a massage.
  1. It’s risky.
Despite the long, almost intimidating name, microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure with minimal risk—especially when you’re having a professional skincare physician performing it.
  1. It’s time-consuming
The bonus of this non-surgical performance is that this procedure is short and requires no downtime! Lasting between 15 and 30 minutes, when you’re done, you’re good to go. You may have a slightly pink tint to your face for a few hours, but it will be replaced by smooth, glowing skin in no time.
  1. It’s pointless
Even with a regular skincare routine, it’s still important to exfoliate if you’re dedicated to clear, healthy skin. Microdermabrasion is designed to remove dead skin cells and debris that your regular nightly routine cannot do alone.
  1. It’s just as effective to DIY
DIY methods on Pinterest or over the counter scrubs are simply not as effective. Microdermabrasion is still a medical procedure and for effective results, it’s best to seek a skincare professional.

The Solutions For Acne
The solutions for Acne
Sidney | 22.7.2016

Acne is something that we help treat on a daily basis and can happen to anyone at any age. We are going to share with you some of our favorite acne treatments and products. Extractions are a very easy inexpensive treatment for active acne. When doing extractions yourself it can actually make acne worse by pushing the contents deeper into the skin, introducing more bacteria into it through unclean nails, or risk scarring. Aestheticians have a sterile environment and can use the appropriate tools to prevent these things. HydraFacials are another very effective way to help clear up active acne. The HydraFacial treatment will help clean debris out of the pores by using a Vortex technology that will extract, exfoliate, and infuse the skin. You will also receive a peel containing Glycolic and Salicylic Acids. This treatment for best acne results can be given on a weekly basis. And lastly, acne laser treatments are going to destroy the P. acne bacteria that is actually causing the breakout. Inflammation and redness will decrease even after the first treatment. Acne laser treatments are a safe treatment with 80% of acne clearance on average. We recommend 4 treatments over a 4 week period. Using a great at home regimen in conjunction with acne treatments will always maximize the results you will have. Retin-A or Tretinoin is used to treat mild to moderately acne. Retin-A will speed up cell turnover rates, rapidly exfoliating your skin and decreasing the buildup of dead cells within the follicle. This will keep your pores from becoming blocked, no blocked pores means no pimples (or blackheads). Obagi Medical Clenziderm MD System contains three simple products. The Daily Care Foaming Cleanser and the Pore Therapy Toner are both 2% Salicylic Acid based products to use morning and night dry up active acne and prevent new breakout.  Followed by the Therapeutic Lotion which contains 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. This can be used all over for severe acne or as a spot treatment. SkinCeuticals also have a very effective acne treatment kit the Adult Anti-Acne System. Included is cleanser with is LHA, glycolic, and salicylic acid designed to unclog pores, smooth irregularities and brighten the skin. The LHA Solution is used to then exfoliate the skin and remove excess residue. Finishing with the Blemish + Age, this oil-free serum prevents the formation of acne. With these amazing treatments and products we have helped our clients achieve the flawless skin they've been hoping for! Don't let acne be something that you struggle to control.

What Is The Importance Of SPF
What is the importance of SPF
Sidney | 15.3.2016

We all know we are supposed to apply sunscreen when we are outside, but what is it really protecting us from? UVA, UVB, UVC, and IR rays are all damaging to our skin. When you're not wearing sunscreen on a daily basis to help protect your skin's health, UVA and UVB rays can cause skin reddening, brown spots, accelerated skin aging, and increase your risk of skin cancer.   UVA - stands for Ultraviolet A or " UV Aging Rays". These rays cause long term skin damage and photo-aging.   UVB - stands for Ultraviolet B or "UV Burning Rays". These rays are the cause of a sunburn. UVB rays are the common cause of most skin cancers.   UVC - stands for Ultraviolet C. It is the strongest and most deadly of solar rays, however the ozone layer stops these from reaching the Earth.   IR or Infrared Rays- these rays penetrate the deepest into the skin causing the skin to lose elasticity.   Here are a few things to remember when protecting yourself.

  • Look at your sunscreen ingredients and make sure you see titanium dioxide and zinc oxide.
  • Avoid tanning and UV tanning beds.
  • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily with an SPF of 30 or higher.
  • Apply 2 tbs of sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside; reapply every 80 minutes or after swimming or sweating.
  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF) measures a sunscreen's effectiveness in preventing a sunburn in relation to the length if time spent in the sun.
  • Schedule a yearly visit with your dermatologist for a complete skin exam.
